The taste of Nordic Summer
Elderflower is the beautiful white flower of the storied elder tree. They grow in abundance in Scandinavia and other parts of Europe. Growing up, we’d go out in late spring, pluck baskets full of flowers, take them home and make gallons of elderflower cordial. To us, the cordial brings the flavor of childhood and long, bright summer nights.
Little known to us back then, the elderflower has long been used in herbal medicine and is particularly known for its anti-inflammatory and flu-fighting properties.
The elder tree is a regular in much Nordic and European folklore, and is often associated with magic and wisdom. Not surprising that the most powerful wand in Harry Potter is the old “Elder Wand”.
